ALA Announces 2025 Recipients of Celebrated Library Intellectual Freedom Awards

The Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) of the American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce the Illinois Library Association as the recipient of the 2025 Gerald Hodges Intellectual Freedom Chapter Relations Award; Nate Coulter as the recipient of the 2025 John Phillip Immroth Memorial Award; and Shannon M. Oltmann as the recipient of the 2025 Eli M. Oboler Memorial Award. The awards will be presented at ALA Annual Conference.

IFRT Seeks Nominations for the Eli M. Oboler Award

The Intellectual Freedom Round Table is seeking journal article nominations for the 2025 Eli M. Oboler Memorial Award. The award winner will be announced in the spring of 2025. A certificate of recognition and $500 cash award will be presented at the 2025 American Library Association Annual Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The deadline for nominations is January 2, 2025.

ALA and Unite Against Book Bans will host a second annual Rally for the Right to Read: Voters Unite Against Book Bans at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront on Friday, June 28, 2024. Nationally renowned writer, cultural critic and MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Hanif Abdurraqib will deliver the keynote address.
