Intellectual Freedom Blog Policy
Intellectual Freedom Blog – Hosted by the Office for Intellectual Freedom, a unit of the American Library Association.
The mission of the Intellectual Freedom Blog is to provide a venue for coverage of time-sensitive news in intellectual freedom and librarianship. Our writers represent a variety of perspectives and backgrounds. Content areas may include current issues in the field, upcoming programs and conferences, helpful resources, and official member communication from the Office for Intellectual Freedom and ALA.
The Intellectual Freedom Blog is managed by staff of the Office for Intellectual Freedom. OIF has the right to reject any submission by a guest blogger which compromises the integrity of ALA/OIF or creates a conflict of interest or objectivity of OIF in regard to the unit’s award contests.
Regular bloggers must be members of ALA or staff of OIF. In addition to regular bloggers, the blog may have occasional guest bloggers. Contributors will be clearly identified with a biography. Unless stated, bloggers do not represent the official position of OIF or ALA.
OIF staff will work with the blog writers to develop content and topics. Committee chairs and members of Intellectual Freedom Committee, Intellectual Freedom Round Table, Privacy and Ethics may also submit content to the office for consideration.
The Intellectual Freedom blog is a tool sponsored by the Office for Intellectual Freedom for use within ALA membership and for outreach beyond OIF. Lively opinion and commentary are welcome in blog posts. Bloggers must check facts, cite sources, and check spelling and grammar. Links to related posts are encouraged. Comments are open to all but may be moderated by OIF staff. Commentary, opinion, and reaction to posts are welcome. Comments should be relevant to the specific post to which they refer. OIF reserves the right to remove, or not to post, comments unrelated to the mission of the blog. Spam, flaming, personal attacks, and off-topic comments are not permitted.
Posts on the Intellectual Freedom blog are Creative Commons licensed under the Attribution, Non-commercial, No Derivatives license for the United States. Any content that is re-published elsewhere must be attributed to the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom and include the name of the Intellectual Freedom blog and a link back to the blog.
